It’s been a busy summer packed with spending time with family, enjoying the city, hosting friends, life changes, and traveling!
The first half of 2024 was loooonnngggg and we were overdue for a vacation so we visited the Cayman Islands in June. We had such an amazing time decompressing, leaving all adulting behind, celebrating Carnival, and soaking up the sun. Fortunately it wasn’t sweltering and we narrowly escaped Hurricane Beryl.
Knitting
Poolside in the Cayman Islands I started on a pair of socks. They were quite the conversation starter; people at the resort and airport were fascinated and couldn’t help sparking up convo to ask what I was making.
The socks turned out beautifully and they fit like a glove. I hadn’t knit socks since Christmas and was curious to see how I’d adjust to using the smaller needles again but it all worked out!
No matter the season, I’m always mentally gearing up for fall and winter hence me making a sweater in the dead of summer. I set a 2024 knitting goal to make a textured garment which I did with the Sweater No. 18 in this fun blood orange yarn. It’ll be perfect on those super cold winter days.
Baking
My oven has been getting a workout. This summer I’ve done a good amount of baking: butter cookies, a ton of chocolate chip cookies, and a few loaves of banana bread!
Datrianna LOVED the butter cookies and said they’re her favorite of my baked treats yet! 🤤
These chocolate chip cookies have quickly become a crowd favorite. I baked them for Father’s Day and a gathering at my mom’s house, now folks anticipate them every time I arrive. I must say, I understand the hype!
I made 2 banana bread loaves; the first needed a bit of work…it was fragrant but a little bland.
I ripened the bananas a lot more and upped the brown sugar just a bit for my second attempt and it was PERFECT!
I hope you’ve been doing whatever brings you joy — if you’re up for sharing, I’d love to hear what those things are!
